Who We Are

We are enthusiastically part of a larger church family called the Church of the Nazarene!

What does that mean you might say?!? In 1908 the Nazarene church came forth from the United Methodist Church and several smaller holiness groups. The name is distinct but meaningful. One of the early founders of the church, J.P. Widney, put forth "Church of the Nazarene," because he believed God was creating a church that would follow Jesus the Nazarene and his mission on earth. Jesus was from Nazareth, a poor and out of the way town. It was a saying, "can anything good come from Nazareth." Widney and other early Nazarene leaders believed we would be the church to reach the least of these, the downtrodden, broken and cast off from society.

Unity in essentials, liberty in non-essentials and charity in all things.
— Early Nazarene Church Mantra

All Nazarenes share a radical optimism when it comes to the amazing and powerful grace of God. We believe no matter what, his grace can transform and make new any life. We do not spend time squabbling over differences and we are not a cookie-cutter church. One Nazarene church to the next can look and feel very different based on the need to reach whatever peoples or culture are in that particular community. We are an inviting and loving people, all are welcome through our doors! We value and respect individual differences and create community or family around unity in the Spirit, not conformity.

Our Mission

Loving God: in Matthew 22:37, Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was by the Pharisees. He responded with “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” We strive to live out that commandment in every area of our lives as a church and as believers.

Loving People: in Matthew 22:39, Jesus gave the second greatest commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We seek to love all people the same way that Jesus loves us, with the same Grace and Mercy he pours on us new each day.

Make Disciples: before Jesus ascended into heaven, gave one final commandment: In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus said “go and make disciples of all nations.” What Jesus is actually saying here is “as you go, make disciples.” We believe discipleship is living into the fullness of God’s salvation, the abundant life. It is the journey of every single person in the world, to walk from brokenness to wholeness in Jesus Christ. We do this personally, but also within community. Read more about The Journey.

What we believe

The Apostle’s Creed

We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy Church Universal,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.

Amen.
